Science for Africa
Africa Must Become a Producer of Agricultural Knowledge — Not Only a Consumer of It.
Scientific Agency
Africa possesses enormous agricultural biodiversity. Yet much of the world's genomic knowledge has been generated from datasets and breeding populations developed outside the continent.
I believe Africa needs to invest strategically in:
- African crop datasets
- Regional sequencing and bioinformatics infrastructure
- Phenotyping platforms
- Computational breeding capacity
- African-led research collaborations
- Training the next generation of genomic scientists
The objective is not scientific isolation. It is scientific agency. Africa should be able to define its agricultural questions, generate its own evidence and lead the development of solutions relevant to its farmers.

Making Science Understandable
Scientific knowledge has limited impact if it remains inside laboratories and journals. I therefore engage in public science communication through analytical writing and science dialogue.
